"Neon Neon" Celebrating 25 Years of Hangin Loose in Hawaii with Blue Hawaii Surf & Friends

Saturday September 19th will be a special night for Blue Hawaii Surf. We will be celebrating 25 Years of Hangin Loose in Hawaii along with our friends. Asides from the festivities Blue Hawaii Surf will be helping out two very special causes. The first is our friend Kenny Brimer one of the characters and faces of the local skateboard scene. Kenny was recently diagnosed with chronic lymphotic leukemia. Blue Hawaii Surf along with INNOV8 Magazine, Fitted and The Hundreds will be hosting numerous events throughout the evening helping to raise funds to help Kenny fight his battle with Leukemia and to help him get back to his routine of doing what he loves most which is skateboarding. There will be silent auction art from special guest artist as well as live art going on. The other worthy cause Blue Hawaii Surf will be raising funds for the "Keep the Country Country" Organization. This organization is main objective is to protect Oahu's shorelines from large scale developement, allowing access for local residents and tourist alike to enjoy our ocean. Other festivities going on within this special event is a fashionshow put on by our girl Jen Teixeira as well as music provided by the world famous Nocturnal Sound Crew. There will also be prize giveaways from Oakley, Freestyle, Vans, and Sticky Bumps. Please join us on this special occassion. Come early because it's guarantee to be packed. See you there! Aloha-HSH

That's right after a long 3-4 months away from the islands Eighty Four's Dyson Ramones is back on the rock. Dyson's been on a few Hurley tours, as well as Stereo video adventures. After sleeping on Nick Yamasato's couch for the past couple months it's time to get that back straightened out. A few plate lunches, a dip in the ocean, a trip to 808 Tattoo for some ink, a session in the studio with the boys, and some time with family and friends and he'll be back in shape in no time. The Swoosh is now in the building! Nike 6.0 is now available @ Blue Hawaii Surf. At first glance I wasn't aware of what it was Nike 6.0 was up to. I'm real familiar with the SB brand due to our skateboarding roots, but I wasn't sure what Nike was up to when they launched 6.0. That was until now. With Kai Barger and Wahiawa's own surfer extraordinaire/2008 Triple Crown standout Dusty Payne (bet he's eaten at Dong Yang before), as well as Coco Ho, and Carissa Moore it was an easy choice. We've lost 3 icons last week all within a 2 day span (Ed Mc Mahon, Michael Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett). Vans has just released their "Classic 77" selection with the original body styles for the "Old Skool" and "Mid Skool" silhouettes. There's a ton of colors and styles in the classic old skool colorways. Also back in the game is none other than Shawn Stussy under the "Double S" label. I was at the HASA State Championship surf meet today at Bowls to watch our groms compete. They had mentioned that they watched the "Rising Son" video lastnight which is the documentary on Christian Hosoi . The groms had met Holmes earlier this year and had no idea of his rise and fall and rise again. Having met him first and then watching the video gave them a new perspective on Christian Hosoi. I found this pic in my archive. This is Holmes @ Cholos for a very historic contest that took place a couple of years ago. Christian still inspires anyone who has the opportunity to witness his skateboarding just as he did back in the day.

Another weekend and another contest. But this time it wasn't just any ol' contest. This was the 3rd Annual "Freedom Contest" @ Queens in Waikiki. I must say we all had a good time. Except for the part of waking up at 5am and setting up. Other than that lots of ohanas were out and about and partaking in the ocean festivities. Tentsales n' Artshows

This weekend was a long, long, long weekend. We had our Blue Hawaii Surf "Tentsale" in windy, gusty conditions. Our tents almost flew away while Josh was hanging on to them! On Saturday after our Tentsale our homie Ryan was participating in an artshow out on the North Shore. Talk about journey! Whoever put together the artshow did a great job. Seems like the entire North Shore community showed up. The Gutted Crew had a room of their own displaying photos of Graveside as well as some art by their homie John. I'll post more on this event sometime soon.
Our groms were also out on the Westside surfing the Volcom Puffer Fish contest as well as the HASA. Running back and forth between Maile and Makaha surfing two contest simultaneously. Not exactly sure on the results other than E.J. Mitsui made it into the final of the Volcom contest. Right on E.J.! We'll have photos up on the coverage of this surf event as soon as I hunt down Uncle Karl! Aloha

That's right folks, Ryan Chun will be painting a mural today at our Eighty Four Skate/Blue Hawaii Kalihi Gallery location! Whew that was long!!! Anyways Ryan will be painting a mural on a 6 inch long 2x4. This is something to be witnessed by all in the nearby area. Stop in and get an autographed signed by this Millani legend! Ryan is not only painting a mural today, he's also the man in charge @ the Kalihi spot. Pay him a visit, bring him some lunch and he'll paint you a picture! He might even do tricks on his skateboard for you. Ha! Yeah guy!

RVCA Buildout by Mark Kawakami

Blue Hawaii Surf Waikele recently had a custom built RVCA buildout by Mark Kawakami installed. One of the things that RVCA is known for is their support for the arts through their Artist Network Program. So when it came time to install our RVCA section at our Waikele location we chose to have a master craftsman and artist in his own right Mark Kawakami to do the honors. We didn't want to have the typical vendor pre fabricated unit getting bolted up to the wall. What we were looking for was something that would compliment the RVCA apparel collection as well as to showcase some artwork from RVCA's Artist Network Program. The final product was nothing short of amazing and we're really stoked to have worked once again with Mark Kawakami on an amazing project. H.A.S.A. Haleiwa Surf Meet

This past Saturday Valentines Day to be exact the H.A.S.A. held their surf meet out at Haleiwa. The surf was about 2-3 feet and windy. Some heats had it better than others as far as the conditions were concerned. That was no matter to our kids from the Blue Hawaii Surf team. They're just stoked to get out and surf with 4 or 5 guys out in decent surf! Despite the fact that they didn't win and they didn't lose they were stoked because we came out equipped with the BBQ grill and tents to keep it cool and everybodies appetites satified. Always a good time with the Blue Hawaii Surf team

Building a proper "Cruizer Board".

Went into work yesterday looking for something fun and exciting to do. It took me a while but I decided on building a "cruiser board". We had a few a decks on the wall with odd shapes and sizes and I really wanted to see what these decks would look like as completes.
